My hearing is normal, but I’m still struggling to understand what is said.
We are here to help.
Parents
Try the APDQ Parent screening tool for 7 - 18 year olds to check if an APD assessment may be appropriate for your child.
Mark yourself as the rater (Parent) and include your email address for the results.
If you consent to Hear.Think.Speak Audiology reaching out to you, include hello@hearthinkspeak.com.au and a copy of the results will be shared with the clinic. We will be happy to discuss the screening results and help you decide where to next for your child.
Professionals
Try the APD Referral Checklist to check if your student or client should seek an APD assessment.
If you are a Medical Officer, Teacher or Allied Health Practitioner such as a Speech Pathologist or Psychologist working with children, mark any listening difficulties you have observed. Mark any known risk factors for APD as well. Send your completed form and referral letter to hello@hearthinkspeak.com.au or via HealthLink with the EDI htsaudio and we will contact the family to arrange an appointment.
This fillable form has been generated from the New Zealand Guidelines on Auditory Processing Disorder and the full document can be accessed NZ-APD-GUIDELINES-2019.pdf

Where to start?
Hear.Think.Speak Audiology offers APD testing from age 7 years to 50 years.
Before we assess for an APD, we need to determine if you or your child are a candidate for an APD assessment. Significant known challenges with language, cognitive function or a pre-existing hearing loss may invalidate any APD assessments.
We are happy to work with you or your child to understand whether the challenges you present with may be an APD or whether they are better explained by other conditions.
What should my next steps be? Please book a Long Consultation, so that a hearing and ear health assessment can be completed to rule out any peripheral hearing loss or ear health issue. Bring all Speech Pathology, Educational Psychology, ENT letters or reports from a Paediatrician with you to the appointment. Using all of this information, we will determine a path forward towards an APD assessment or Medical, Educational or Allied Health evaluations.
